Q1

how does the scene in australia compare to the one in the united states? what artists are you excited about in both countries?

A

Hip Hop is still in it's infancy here in Australia, where as in America, it's well into it's thirtieth year of exitence. It therefore has more of a concrete understanding of it's identity in the U.S. Australian hip hop has really only recieved local support over the last three years. I feel like Hip hop music is embedded and etched into modern America, it's look, it's feel, it's attitude, it's sound, it actually signifies and embodies modern themes and idea's... I'm excited by Nas and Lil' Wayne.

Q2

does it seem weird some times being a lady in the hip hop genre?

A

Not really. I see myself as a fluid being. Whilst I am proud to be a woman, I don't let it dictate who I am. I am more infinite than that. Nothing is absolute. Not even gender.

Q3

do you think it's weird that while there are 24 rappers on the game's one blood remix, none of them are female?

A

That is the artists choice. There really aren't a whole heap of women rappers in mainstream music at the moment. Hip Hop is quite cliquey. You have a crew who you represent with and for. Perhaps there are no ladies in the Game's crew? Hmmm. Nothing is ever truely wierd for anything is possible. It's chaos out there.

Q4

how does it feel to be the first hip hop artist on krs? are you stoked?

A

I am honoured, indeed. I feel like KRS is a very fitting little home for my record. I grew up listening to the music it put out. Some of the artists and their work are really the reason why I got prompted to do what I do, write and perform. I feel like I have the same progressive thinking and artistic innovation as the artists on the label, so even though I am the hip hop anomalie, there is a consistency and similar intensity between me and the more punk artists. Thank you for having me.

Q5

what have you been listening to lately?

A

Lots of black metal, velvet cacoon, the new striborg record, charles mingus, eric dolphy, La Chat, marnie stern, the new Nas record, Lil' Wayne, Morricone soundtracks...

Q6

what other bands have you been in? has it influenced the music you do now?

A

I played in a band called 'noise addict' when i was 15. I used to have a band called Aerokim and the Civilized Pines and I've always composed guitar peices. I got to tour the US in '95 with noise addict, so it taught me the ropes of touring early on, which was a big help. Playing all sorts of music inspires me and teaches me about myself and makes me open to all idea's and possibilities.

Q7

do you do any other art besides macromantics?

A

I draw pictures. I have a solo guitar project called Duke Miserable and a heavy doomier, sludgy metal band called 'blackitha deathika'. But right now, macromantics is my priority.
