XIU XIU AND DEERHOOF TO PERFORM JOY DIVISION'S UNKNOWN PLEASURES (02/03/10)
It’s funny Xiu Xiu should ask Deerhoof to perform Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures with them. Just a short time before this, Deerhoof received a MySpace comment containing a Joy Division video and the words "COVER THIS"; and then a Facebook message asking when there would be a full-on collaboration between Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu. Add to this the sheer coincidence that Ian Curtis committed suicide on May 18, Greg Saunier's birthday, and the conclusion seemed inevitable.*

Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof will perform Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures on April 29th at Donaufestival, which runs April 28th through May 8 in Krems, Austria. Other festival performers include Peaches, Rufus Wainwright, Deichkind, Panda Bear, Dan Deacon, Wolf Parade, Cobra Killer, Alec Empire & The Ex, Fuck Buttons and many more. Additional information can be found at www.donaufestival.at and you can order tickets here

As you may already know, Xiu Xiu have a new album coming out in a few weeks. Dear God, I Hate Myself was mixed by Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier and produced by Thee Fallings Brose (Greg, Jamie Stewart, and Ches Smith). Jamie Stewart and Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg just finished recording a record coming out on Graveface titled Gail. The band is called Blue Water, White Death and the album was produced by John Congelton of The Paper Chase.

Deerhoof have two new singles out – one on ATP, and the other is a Deerhoof/One One split 7” on Someone Good, coming out in Australia on March 1st (but you can preorder it now at http://www.someonegood.org/). Greg Saunier recently spent three days in Sacramento recording drum duos with Zach Hill (Hella / Boredoms / Chll Pll / Bygones). No more details are available at the moment, but fans of Nervous Cop may have a new release to look forward to...

QUASI IN STORE/COLORING CONTEST (01/29/10)
Jackpot Records just announced a free, all ages instore with local legends Quasi to celebrate the release of their new album, “American Gong”. Superduo Sam Coomes (Heatmiser) and Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney), along with Joanna Bolme, return to awe and inspire with a new album that has been described as bright, uplifting and hopeful. If it’s that shiny when it’s trapped in your stereo, just imagine how shiny it will be unleashed live and in-person! Better bring your sunglasses.

As for the musical math, this is Quasi’s first release on Kill Rock Stars, their fourth instore with Jackpot Records and their seventh full-length album to date. Playing as Quasi since 1993, Coomes and Weiss have aged their musical outfit with the grace and grit befitting of a time-tested collaboration.

To bridge the fun gap between now and February 23rd, Jackpot Records is hosting a Quasi poster coloring contest. Stop by either Jackpot Records location to pick-up an 11 x 17 show flyer, designed by Sam Coomes, and return it with your own artistic flourishes before the day of the instore. All posters will be put on display, and the band will award an extra-special prize to the designer of their favorite work. Designated winner must be present to receive the prize.

THERMALS/CRIBS SPLIT SEVEN INCH - THERMALS TOURING CHINA! (01/29/10)
It's no secret The Cribs and The Thermals are good friends. The Thermals have supported The Cribs on two tours of the UK, and half of The Cribs now call Portland, The Thermals' hometown, their home as well. The amount of mutual respect and admiration the two bands have for each other is immense. And both bands are well known and loved for their individual brands of loud, melodic rock.

So it makes perfect sense that The Cribs and The Thermals team up for a split 7". They are doing just that. Kill Rock Stars will release a limited edition (2000 copies) Cribs/Thermals split 7" for Record Store Day, April 17, 2010. The Cribs song is titled "So Hot Now", The Thermals track is "Separate".

The Cribs are currently touring the west coast of the US, and will tour New Zealand and Australia in February 2010, in support of their most recent LP, Ignore The Ignorant. The Cribs will also play Coachella, and the main stage at Lollapalooza.

The Thermals are currently mixing their next LP for Kill Rock Stars with Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, Tegan and Sara) at his home studio in Portland, Oregon. The LP is tentatively titled Personal Life. KRS will release it September 7, 2010.

The Thermals will tour the US west coast next month, and have also just confirmed tour dates in CHINA! To follow their Australian tour in March 2010.
