“I’m always interested in how phrases or popular sayings are gendered. Saying “you’re the man” means you’re awesome, powerful, etc. We don’t have those phrases for women, so it is part of my calling to make them as common as their male counterparts. This song is about owning your own power. Letting go of all the bruises and making it a part of what makes you strong. We are “Way too smart to sing your war songs.”"
