HAPPY NEW YEAR & IT'S OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY

2021 marks 30 years of Kill Rock Stars. Special releases and announcements will fill this anniversary year, including a new cover singles series titled Stars Rock Kill (Rock Stars), where 30+ artists from around the world will cover tracks from KRS’ expansive catalogue. We'll be sharing the tracks all year long.

The first single of the series is a cover of Elliott Smith’s “Some Song” by Mary Lou Lord and Mikaela Davis. This single marks a slight return of an old KRS alum, Mary Lou with her KRS debut EP in 1993. Mikaela Davis is an iconoclastic singer and harpist, showcasing both her vocals and instrument in the cover of “Some Song”.

"I chose ‘Some Song’ because it’s so haunting, and also very human. I love this song because it’s slow-burning and very intense, and I think it describes a certain human condition of madness and normal. A mask, but one that can be removed or put on at any given time.” – Mary Lou Lord

"I first heard the Needle In The Hay 7” version of ‘Some Song’ from 1995 where Elliott says, “Hello, hello, hello. This is a rock song. Loud, loud, loud” before starting. What a cheeky thing to say before delivering a song that is solo acoustic guitar and vocals, I thought. We decided to reference the alternate electric version released on the deluxe edition of XO in 2019… seems like that’s what Elliott originally intended for the song.” – Mikaela Davis

The Stars Rock Kill (Rock Stars) digital cover series subscription is $20 (for at least 30 tracks). After purchasing, you’ll receive a download alert as each new cover in the series is released.
