Jad & David Fair - first time on vinyl

In the mid 70’s, David Fair and Jad Fair unleashed ½ Japanese (later ‘Half Japanese’) as a blistering, art-damaged, pre-punk group, recording several acclaimed indie albums. David left in the 80’s to pursue visual arts while Jad maintains Half Japanese to this day.

1998 saw the second Fair brothers album, 26 Monster Songs for Children (Sing Your Babies to Sleep). David found monsters to cover each letter of the alphabet and drafted his 5-year-old son to do the song intro’s.  Each short tune features eerie vocals and bluesy guitars, covering creatures from mythology to horror films, including Bigfoot, Godzilla and Jabberwocky.

The Brothers Fair reunited 10 years later for something of a follow-up: 2008’s Halloween Songs. Sporting a richer but still minimal sound, short tunes still rule and guests including zombies, witches, Frankenstein and blues legend Robert Johnson while the music recalls Tom Waits and the Residents. Gals and ghouls- celebrate All Hollow’s Eve here.
